The objective of this paper is to conceptualize a circular business model based on an ecosystem architecture, through the integration of circular economy concepts and systems thinking principles. An operational conceptual model will be presented with the aim of managing the complexity of integrating circular economy principles, digital transformation and sustainable and responsible development tools and frameworks into business models. The proposed collaborative architecture is multi-level, multi-scale and multi-aspectual, allowing the instantiation of the sustainable value chain in any territory (territorial and digital spaces) and for many types of socio-economic innovations. The proposed holistic architecture promotes the incorporation of Circular Economy 4.0 and Society 5.0 systemic principles integrated into new circular business models. This integrated perspective of Business Model 4.0 and Society 5.0 can support the design of digital products, social systems services, and organizations, as well as the upgrading of manufacturing companies in their respective industry sectors. The proposed conceptual model is based on Activity Theory (AT) that takes into account the interactions between technical and social systems while allowing for the mitigation of the metabolic gap that exists between natural and social metabolism. This study contributes to the existing literature on the circular economy, circular business models, and activity theory by considering the concerns of the systems paradigm as applied to Fabs Labs , which have not really been explored yet. This research also proposes a unique holonic architecture of the circular business model by considering its different levels, relationships, dynamism and contextualization aspects (physical spaces, psychological spaces, social spaces, digital and robotic spaces).
